Hello world! Have you ever wondered what a proxy is? If so, you, 1. You are a noob :emoji_laughing: , and 2. Good for asking this question. In this post I am going to explain how a proxy works, in simple terms.

    So, what is it?
A proxy is a man in the middle, so to speak. Think of it this way:
You are a 14 year old in a middle school and you want to ask the girl/boy of your dreams to the school dance/event. Well, you want to ask him/her, but are embarassed to do it yourself, so, you ask your friend, Jack/Jill to ask the girl/boy. Then, your friend Jack/Jill gives you the answer. This is how a proxy works. Refer to figure A1 for a cool visual brought to you by google.

    How does it work?
A proxy runs on the example shown above. But, how does it work? Well, you send data to the proxy server. Then, the proxy server sends the data to another server, for example, a website. Then, the website sends information back to the proxy and the proxy relays it to you. This way, the server, or in this case website, never gets to see your IP adress. This keeps you anonmyous, similar to a VPN.

    Clearing some things up.
Proxies act as a filter. Unlike a proxy, a VPN would encrypt all traffic and not just certain things. If you want a more in depth explanation, just ask and I will make a new thread devoted to it.
